Join Los Angeles Fun Events and Hike Explore Repeat for a group Sunset Hike starting from 5409 Los Feliz Blvd. -- This is a moderate 2.6 mile loop which will take us up to Griffith Observatory and back.

There are areas of steepness. Everyone attending this meetup is responsible for having the proper fitness and equipment including hiking boots/footwear, poles etc. in order to complete this hike. Please wear shoes with good grip/proper hiking footwear.

This is not meant to be a "guided" hike -- all attendees bear full responsibility for having adequate skills, fitness and equipment to complete this moderately challenging hike.

About the Hike:

 Explore this 2.6-mile loop trail near Universal City, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 23 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, running, and walking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Ferndell (aka Fern Dell) is a woodsy glen at the lower end of Western Canyon in Griffith Park. Your destination is the historic Griffith Observatory.

Accessibility: Visitors using wheelchairs, mobility equipment, or strollers may need all-terrain tires or adaptive/motorized equipment for the surface type and grade. Visitors using wheelchairs, mobility equipment, or strollers may need assistance along this entire route due to the consistent sections above a 5% grade (especially if using manual equipment).

The most accessible portion of the trail is the paved portion on the Fern Dell Nature Trail at the south end of the trail from about 0.0-0.3 and 2.3-2.6 miles when going counterclockwise.

Accessible Parking: Number of designated accessible spaces: 1 at the parking lot marked with a waypoint; Number of van-accessible spaces with access aisles: 1; Parking lot surface: paved.

Trail Details: Trail surface: paved asphalt or a natural surface (dirt, rocks); Average trail width: 6 feet; Estimated average grade category: moderately steep (5-8%) and steep (8-12%) with steeper sections at about 0.5, 0.9, 1.2, 1.9, and 2.1 miles when going counterclockwise.
